Update (30-Apr-2023)


Hi All,

Just wanted to give you a quick update. I've drafted up the plan for the new scenes for the sleazy female officers, and started writing some of it. It's using the same framework as the previous scenes, so technically it won't change much. But, I think I streamlined it a bit. Previously, there would be about 9 different scenes for a character, with about 3 to 6 variations for each of them. The scenes would have different requirements on outfits and relationship levels, and then the variations themselves will have different requirements. It was tough to keep organized. This time, there will be only 2 scenes. One is unlocked at relationship level 2 and will take place during the morning. The other one is unlocked at relationship level 4 and will take place at night. Both of these scenes will have a lot more variations though, between 15 and 25 each. These variations will start innocuously, but as the main character's relationship level goes up, more salacious variations will be unlocked. TLDR: I'm progressing forward with the existing framework, but hopefully in a more manageable way.

I'm excited for the evening scene. By relationship level 4, the officer will start inviting the main character to a private party in her quarters, if the main character is on the same station. The parties will start innocent enough in the beginning, with just a bit of socializing with other guests. As the main character goes to more parties, she'll start witnessing the officer doing more sexual things, though. If their relationship level goes high enough, then the main character will also follow her lead.

One quandary I still have is how to manage morale for this scene. I could choose to neither raise nor lower morale for this scene, until the main character starts to do sexual things. That would be very similar to the stern female officer's paid dating evening scene progression. Or, I could initially give a positive morale gain to the main character - proportional to her relationship level - and then subtract morale for any lewd activity that she witnesses or partakes in. What do you think makes sense?

I would give a small morale boost, then subtract morale for witnessed/participated lewd actions. I think this would be better both w.r.t. balancing as well as immersion.

Balancing: If I remember correctly, the morale loss when meeting a sleazy male officer at level 2 is 2, while at level 4 it is about 5? So the difference is 3. Missing your evening relaxation is huge, especially as you cannot avoid it. When you reach relationship level 4 with some officers, you normally get 6-8 morale each evening. Stern female compensates that by having a reduced morale drop for missions, sleazy female doesn't have this. Plus, I guess you can still get the level 2 scenes in the office. So an initial morale boost might be good, it is still worse than getting your normal evening program. Depending on how fast you will get penalties for lewd actions, I would give an initial boost between relationship*0.5 and relationship.

Immersion: If you are invited to the private party of a girl that you know she has a crush on you, but you don't share her feelings can be an akward situation. But you can still have fun at this party, at least more fun than having a bind date with a creepy stranger. However, as soon as you have to do some dares on this party, this might change...

Maybe have the player decide the character's reaction to it and thus the morale effect?  Just a thought.

I was just thinking it could basically be a prompt for how the player character is reacting, something like:

1. Get angry (+ morale, - relationship)

2. I guess that wasn't too horrible (neutral)

3. That was disgusting but I had no choice (- morale, + relationship)


The idea with the relationship change is to give the choice some benefit even thought you're losing morale, and vice versa.

Don't do nothing - don't do requested thing, withstand things done to u -+morale, -+relationship

Happily agree - agree doing something, accept or flirt when things done to u -morale, +relationship

I wouldn't use relationship as a ressource here, relationship is the most valuable ressource and there are little situations where you would go for morale instead. It also would change the game mechanics a lot. What I could imagine is a money/morale tradeoff. While doing things for money doesn't really fit a private party (might better fit stern male), you might meet certain people at the party. If they enjoy your company, they could use your services the next day. In other words, if you accept some lewd actions on the party, you loose some morale, but get a guaranteed passenger of even VIP mission from that officer the next day.

Still, I'm not sure that implementing new features at this stage of development is a good idea, or whether this should be postponed for later.
