Update (04-Jun-2022)

Hi All,

Weekly Update:

Last week, I focused on writing morning events. These events will be erotic events that typically revolve around how the main character is dressed. I think I've finished writing them. I actually wrote them twice. I wrote them once, wasn't really happy with how it would work, and then re-wrote them. I'm still not 100% on how they sound, but I think it's time to put it into the game, and see what you think. Next week, I will focus on adding these events into the game.

Dynamic Scenes:

I want to talk a bit about an event writing strategy I'm using, that I like to call Dynamic Scenes. The hope is to make a scene highly repeatable. This is valuable, because of the simulation nature of this game, and how long this game is. To do this, a scene will be made of lots of interchangeable blocks. For example, the scene might start with an intro block to set the scene, a couple of middle blocks, and then an ending block to wrap up the scene. These blocks can be randomly selected from a pool of blocks, and which blocks are available can be dependent on several factors. What I hope this does is make two runs of the same scene feel a bit different, and also evolve the scene naturally as the player progresses through the game. As an additional benefit, this is a highly scalable structure. It's super easy to add new events to this scene, later down the line.

The morning events is a dynamic scene, where what can happen in the middle grows as you get further in the game. In this case, what unlocks more blocks is adopting new obligations. This is also interesting to me, because the morning events you see in one station will become different from what you see in another station, just because of the different obligations adopted in those two stations over time.

Other dynamic scenes might include scenes when the main character visits the officers. In this case, new blocks or events can become unlocked by raising the relationship level with that particular officer.

I'm pretty excited about this system. Let's see how it goes.

Personal:

While writing the lewd morning events, I found listening to music really helpful. I was listening to the music in Rimworld, but also Starcraft, and also the soundscape in Elite Dangerous. I should also include Rebel Galaxy, to be honest. They really dig deep into the Blue Collar America vibe. Their second game even has a female protagonist, doing pretty much the stuff that the main character of my game is doing.

Hey, thanks for yet another update - your status update punctuality overshadows most of Patreon creators !

Weekly Update:

Can't wait to check how those outfit dependent events work out :P

Dynamic Scenes:

Scalable, easy to expand, and dynamic - pretty solid features :D

Personal:

All fine choices for music. You might want to check soundtracks of Cowboy Bebop, Hardware Shipbreakers, and Wayward Terran Frotiners.

Bet Rebel Galaxy doesn't have all those fancy mechanics Delivery Pilot has ;)

lol, yeah, I'm glad you mentioned Rebel Galaxy. A lot of times, I play a game that I think has great mechanics or a great premise, but I lament that I wish it had some erotic angles. Like, they would only have to take a single step further, but they don't. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is one of those games. So is Darkest Dungeon.

That's kind of why I wanted to start making my own games. Of course, I don't have the time, resources or even the skills to make anything quite like that. But, if I can capture some of the spirit, and inject just a little bit of lewdness, I'll be happy with myself.

I guess that captures what I try to do (not sure if I really land there); I don't want to make a lewd story with game mechanics in it. I want to make games with a lewd story in it. xD

There's a couple games out there that really do capture this, though. I particularly really like Lust For Darkness / Lust From Beyond. I think they really captured a good mix of gameplay, atmosphere and a very lewd and dark story. I also really liked Haydee 1 and 2. I liked Haydee 1 in particular, because it didn't try to be shocking. The base game didn't have nudity, but the erotica was certainly implied by the setup, situation, camera angles, etc. Really good stuff, imo.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Path of Exile had some pretty sweet artwork... They have updated it since, but there used to be pretty elegant topless women statues around the health and mana bars in the UI. :O You can dig into the lore of the game by reading some in-game items, and one of the women antagonists used to actually work as an escort to further her agenda, and slept with a guard that you fight later on. Her writing was quite intriguing.

Honestly didn't play any of games you've mentioned :P

Checked out Rebel Galaxy based on your recommendation on Steam and it does look interesting. If you like trading games you might want to check Caravaneer 2 - imagine this game was initially browser only !

Concept in PD you've created is so great I've considered a few times integrating it as mods to other games like Skyrim/Barotrauma/Bannerlord, but lack of skills/time left it at planning stage at most. Also I believe I might be a little obsessed with it :P

Regarding erotic games - I've yet to find one where gameplay part is good enough on it's own, therefore I separate erotic and non-erotic games. My all time favorites in development include Town of Magic, Infinite Stars and Malevolent Planet. Though last one is probably dead and I will have to cancel patreon support soon. Also notable mention of Elven Curse for art style which I adore - shame initially it was supposed to be ENF focused game, and dev is straying more and more away from it.

Wow, that's a big bummer. I support Malevolent Planet too, because it also has a cool outfit system. I haven't been paying attention to them recently though, so I better see what's going on. I haven't heard of the others though, so I'll have to check them out, thanks! What can you tell me about them?

I've installed heaps of Skyrim mods! Mainly, they are around Sexlab Survival, SlaveRun, Devious Followers, Being Female, Slave Tattoos, and Troubles of Heroine. In general, I love all their concepts, especially the misogyny angles in SlaveRun and Survival (but only in the fictional erotica sense, remember fantasy vs. reality). But, because they are separate projects by different modders, I often feel they're not exactly coordinated. There are feature overlaps, of events in one might not be accounted in another. I've actually thought a lot about making a simple turn based RPG, sharing a lot of the aspects in those mods. But, that would be a big project, maybe after DP.

What aspects of DP do you enjoy? Is it the relationship building aspect? Do you like the random generation of the game board? Do you like the variations possible with the outfits? Did you say you like the focus being more on harassment than on sex? I really dig the "prude having to put up with the regular sexual harassment" angle.

So the titles I've mentioned:

Town of Magic - Good art, interesting story and absolutely phenomenal combat animations - including stripping/sex attacks

Infinite Stars - Not NSFW yet - but will be once developed enough - Great story, music and atmosphere - Reminds me a lot of first Mass Effect

Elven Curse - Gameplay is meh though I absolutely adore artstyle of the developer

Oh yeah Skyrim modding, in my case usually ending up modding it up till breaking or spending way more time on finding patches, editing mods and looking for mods than actually playing :P

Devious Followers, and Sexlab Survival were great, also liked BakaFactory mods and one other mod which actually implemented NPCs groping your character when naked, and strip you :P

I especially liked Bikini license, catcalling and ass slapping  in SL Survival, for DF I liked whore armor deal. Sadly grand majority of those mods focused almost solely on sex.

RPG sounds interesting ;)

Aspects of DP I'm enjoying ?
A mix of all of it honestly. World reacting to MC behaviour/outfits, plausible reason for her to ditch her normal clothes, not becomming dick obsessed slut in a heart beat and of course lots of harassment.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I have Shipbreaker! I actually didn't get into it too much, because it was a little too depressing for me, lol. It definitely has that vibe, though. I love Cowboy Bebop, though! I think that was the first anime I was ever into. Faye is definitely my turbo crush anime waifu. I even bought the dvd box set, like 20 years ago...

Edit: Listening to the Shipbreaker OST now, it's so good!
